"You’ll summon nations you’ve never heard of, and nations who’ve never heard of you will come running to you because of me, your God, because The Holy of Israel has honored you.”
Isaiah 55:5 (MSG)
I enjoy sharing stories about my parents with people who haven't met them before. The conversation then usually ends with people saying how they would love to meet my parents and experience for themselves what it would be like to be in their company and hear their side of the stories.
If the short description about my parents made someone, who hasn't met them before, want to meet them or spend time with them...how are we as followers of Christ sharing about our Father and Savior in a way that makes others want to know Him more?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we are selling Christianity, not at all. What I am saying, however, is that if testifying about our experience with God can carry so much weight (Acts 4:33), are we nurturing the desire to get to know our Father on a more intimate level, so that we can share with those around us about our revelation of God the Father?
I don't share stories about my parents because someone forces me to do so or even to brag about them. I share out of the pure joy of knowing them and knowing what impact they will have on people's lives when they meet them.
Suppose we realize that the will of God for our lives is centered around Jesus, are we really drawing near to Him and spending time with Him to know how we can glorify His name on a daily basis?
"But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”
Daniël 3:15 (NIV)
“King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
Daniël 3:16-18 (NIV)
King Nebuchadnezzar must have been surprised by Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's response to his threat. Maybe he thought that if their testimony about their God was a lie, then surely they would be proven wrong when they burn in the blazing fire?
The king was proven wrong.
He didn't just experience the power of the living God, but he saw and heard it through the testimony and faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. After hearing about their God, he got to experience the power of their God with his own eyes.
Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.”
Daniël 3:28-29 (NIV)
Who would people say is your God, by the way, that you live?
We are living testimonies. May it be so that people desperately want to meet OUR God, after being in contact with us, and may we share His love wherever we go and with whomever we meet. That is the Father's heart and that is what sets Him far above any other dominion...His overwhelming, reckless love.
He is the only way, the truth, and the life.
This is my God.
