You're not silent

There is a time in the old testament referred to as the “400 years of silence” between Malachi and Matthew, where no prophet was raised up or documentation of events occurred. To some people, God seemed silent.

But He was never silent even when no one wrote about it. Our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

The Father is always active, always involved, and He is always working to accomplish His will for the glory of His name and word.

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Isaiah 55:11 (NLT)

Even in those years when nothing was documented, God was still putting things in place and working behind the scenes to set the stage for His son, Jesus the Messiah, to come. Usually, when this question is asked about the 400 years of silence, there is this unasked question behind the question: “Why does God seem silent in my life?”

Sometimes it might feel like you are left in the dark, trying so hard to hear Him speak. There is a longing inside of your heart to hear the voice of the Father. Maybe you've heard Him speak to you before, whether through His word, a word of knowledge, or maybe even through a dream. You had a glimpse of what He has in store for you and you were so excited to receive more. Desperate to hear what the next move should be, you waited...and waited and then silence.

God is not silent my friend. He is still speaking, but maybe not in a way that you expected. The Father longs for us to know Him on a more intimate level. If you open your eyes to see Him in every small aspect, you will find that He is woven into the finest detail to accomplish His perfect plan and will for your life.

There is, however, still a decision to make. A choice to let go of the fear and doubt and also a choice to stop entertaining the lies and thoughts of the enemy that tells you God is silent.

In times where He seems silent, it is easy to search for approval and guidance in other places. Comparison is dangerous (Romans 12:12). We need to hear the voice of our Father to know who we are in Christ, and to understand our value. With social media connecting us, it is so easy to fall into a cycle of negative thoughts because we automatically compare ourselves to other people. It is so sad to think that we are missing out on what God has prepared for our lives because we are so busy striving to live as other people do.

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart and it all ends up with the truth that there is power in the word of our Father. It is the first thing we push aside when life gets too busy when in reality it should be the first and only thing we hold onto. It is the very essence of God, His Word, His Voice.

There is a definite and unique plan and purpose for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Your hands and your feet carry the power of Christ (Isaiah 52:7) and it is only you, with your unique career and passion who can bring that love and power to those around you.

Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). If you are hungry, God will satisfy your need. Just be open and willing to receive. That's what times of "silence" does, it makes us desperate and hungry for more. If you seek Him, you will find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart. So open your eyes and ears to His word, but don't be surprised if you start hearing Him speak to you in ways you never thought possible (Matthew 7:7-8).

David used praise and thanksgiving (worship) to enter the throne room of God (Psalm 100:4). He wrote letters about all his emotions. He asked questions and waited upon the Lord to guide him every step. David was a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14) and God used him to connect with His people. Enter His throne room with thanksgiving and be expectant to hear from the Father.
