When we were little, my friends and I would often "escape reality" and step into a world where our imagination was the limit. We could be whoever we wanted to be. I sometimes wonder where that wild imagination had gone and where the reality of the world hit us right in the face as if we weren't allowed to dream as big as we used to.
Every day we wake up, we are faced with two realities. The reality of what is going on in the world, crime, war, diseases, injustice. And then there is this reality that we as believers have, the reality that we have a Higher power on our side, that is not only a fantasy but more real than the world that we live in. So I guess it all comes down to what reality we place higher than the other.
When the newspapers fill up with darkness, that's when we need to realize that we carry The Light. When fear tries to make room in our hearts and the hearts of those around us, we cannot accept it, because we have Hope on our side.
Jesus was and will never be afraid of darkness because He is Light, He never fears what the headlines might read because He is Hope and He is in control.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12 (NIV)
For you are my only hope, Lord! I've hung on to you, trusting in you all my life. It was you who supported me from the day I was born, loving me, helping me through my life's journey. You've made me into a miracle; no wonder I trust you and praise you forever!
Psalm 71:5-8 (TPT)
Sure times are changing and it is real, especially when we look at the hate between countries that used to be family, climate change, poverty, corruption in governments, and confusion in one's identity - But it doesn't change our assignment, it actually amplifies it.
We have a mission, we are sent on assignment, to be the hope and light in this dark world. What a joy to know that our Savior is returning, but until then, what are we releasing into the atmosphere with our words? How are we responding when things don't go our way? Man, the world is looking, looking for answers and waiting for people to rise and lead by example (Romans 8:19). A people who say enough is enough, Joy will be our strength, Hope will be our song and Love will be our banner. We cannot keep it for ourselves. We're being fed in church and that's so important, but now it is time to share and go out, outside of our comfort zones.
We cannot declare on the banks of the sea what we are not willing to shout in the deep.
Because that's where we should be - Head underwater in His presence.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
The reason why we so easily fear tomorrow is that we create this situation in our heads of the worst thing that can happen...But we envision it outside of His presence. We see how we won't be able to cope, how the report won't come through as planned, and how we will be left alone. But if we see it inside His presence, there is ALWAYS hope. Why? Because knowing that He will be with us no matter what comes, assures us that He will be there if we need comfort, support or strength, even if it's just for one step in front of the other. He will provide.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (ESV)
