If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
James 1:5 (NIV)
We all have different strengths and weaknesses. To give you an example, I know that technology is not my forte, but I've decided to take baby steps each day. A few months ago I saw that some of the programs on my personal computer didn't want to open. I searched on YouTube for answers. Sat for hours on end to try and solve the problem. I didn't want to phone the IT services because I thought there had to be a way to figure it out on my own. For weeks I couldn't access my documents. I had to ask my colleagues if I could use their laptops in their free time. It felt like I was such a burden.
Eventually, I swallowed my pride and picked up the phone to call IT services. They didn't even take 5 minutes of my time. I saw them identifying and solving the problem in front of my eyes. I was so happy and relieved, yet disappointed that I waited so long to contact them. I wonder why I tried to follow my advice when I knew all along that they were the experts in that field.
How many times have we let pride hold us back from asking God to help us? After all, He is the expert in every field, yet we would rather follow our advice or the advice of others. He is not only one call away, He is closer than our very next breath.
Where there is strife, there is pride,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
Proverbs 13:10 (NIV)
Some of us are allowing pride to shut our ears from the One who is the answer to every question, while others are allowing pride to listen to His advice, but not act on it.
It is not about us, dear friends. Life shouldn't revolve around our needs and desires, but rather around what the King of kings wants us to do for His kingdom. I can assure you that making Him part of every aspect of your life will surely cut out potential moments of regret and disappointment.
We have to revise our questions and prayers. Shifting from "man-centered" to "God-centered."
"I don't think I'm fit for this task God", rather say, "You are the Almighty and Powerful God, and because Your Spirit lives in me, I am fit for this task through You."
"Where should I go and whom should I meet?", rather ask, "Where do You want to go, whom do You want to meet and how can I follow You and be Your hands and feet?"
"I am depressed and tired. How will I ever get through this?", rather say, "Your joy is my strength God, You are my rock and my salvation, I'm relying on You with all that I have."
I encourage you to start with a Psalm each day. Come into a habit of placing God at the center of everything you do and be amazed and how He will respond. After all, prayer is a two-way conversation.
