Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.
You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.
You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak
before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me! This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.
Psalm 139:1-6 (TPT)
Looking up at a sky full of stars really humbles you. It makes you feel like a spec of dust. I wonder if that was what David felt like when he wrote this Psalm. Looking up at the sky, maybe in an open field before battle or standing on his balcony, proclaiming the wonders and majesty of the One True King.
It doesn't get more personal than this. The Creator of all knows every single thought that enters your mind, being so intentional with your life that He not only wants to guide you in your present but the fact that he goes out before you to prepare your future. This is mind-blowing, but friends, this is also real. It's what our hearts are longing for: An intentional and intimate relationship with the Creator of the Universe.
"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."- C.S. Lewis
It's when I am in nature that I see the detail and fingerprints of the Father, and I somehow forget about the day-to-day rush and expectations, but that's not what God wants for us. He wants us to live in His freedom whether we are surrounded by the birds and the mountains or whether we are sitting at the desk job answering calls or running some errands in the week. Freedom isn't a destination, rather it's surrender, knowing whose you are and how involved He wants to be in your life.
There is this concept of weight training. Usually, we think that it is the heavyweight that hurts our joints with repetitive movements, and that is somewhat true, but a big part of it is our grip. If we tighten our grip on the weights, the space in the joints is narrowed and the structures around the joints are placed under a lot of strain.
Maybe it's not the busy schedule that's "stealing our freedom", but rather it's our striving, our trying too hard to do it on our own, that ways us down. So in short, freedom with Jesus is surrender. It's handing over the keys, trusting that the Creator of the stars, is more interested in your life than you'll ever know.
So stand on the balcony, look up at the stars, but also breathe out and throw the weight off from your shoulders, knowing that you don't have to be good enough or measure up because He already did that for you.
It's beautiful, it's freedom - Surrender.
